BANSHEE TREE ARTIST SESSION
Banshee Tree (Boulder/Denver Co) blends acoustic and electric instruments to create a new sound that takes influence from early jazz and swing and launches it into the modern music scene with trance, psych rock, soul and pop influences. Forming in 2014 by Thomas LaFond, BT grew to include Jason Bertone on bass, Nick Carter on fiddle and Michelle Pietrafitta on drums. They are currently recording their debut album as this new iteration of Banshee Tree and will be back on the road as soon as safety and the industry allows.
Antonio lopez Artist Session
Antonio Lopez is a musician, composer, and the executive director of the nonprofit, Sound Bridge Music. He is a quiet man who has something to say. His music is like an onion. It has many layers, each one revealing something more. At the core, Lopez is a singer-songwriter in service to the song. His adept guitar work and composition skills are never used in a showy way, but rather like the spices in a delectable home cooked meal. The result is a feast of emotions that is a delight to the listener.
Dafna’s Artist Session
Dafna is a 20 year old singer/songwriter, producer, and undergraduate engineering student from Boulder, CO. When she's not making music, studying, or coding, you can find Dafna doing what she loves most: napping. Additional hobbies include video games, eating, rollerblading (but only when the temperature is between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit).
Stone Cottage Studios connected with Watts to work on a session for the rising Colorado artist. “The performance ended up being my favorite of the year,” says Watts. The opportunity allowed him to disconnect from the heaviness of 2020 while diving into the music world that he loves so much. Watts says that he has been intentionally highlighting the works of Black authors in his music, and his Artist Session is no exception. He is using this opportunity to use his platform to stand up for the tragedies from the year and allow himself to feel a sense of freedom. Stone Cottage Studios aims to provide local and outside artists with opportunities to explore their musical creativity and connect with other creatives.
The Artist Sessions are just another outlet the group gives to artists who are looking to grow their following and personal strengths. “We strive to help musicians with marketing and visibility by distributing the full 30 minute session and individual song performances across available media channels,” says Stone Cottage Studios. “It's all about capturing musicians at their best and music discovery across genres!”
They met in 2012 studying abroad in Dunedin, New Zealand. It took them approximately 5 seconds to realize they were going to be the best of friends. LVDY started playing together in their cold NZ flats, on front porch couches of Kathleen's college houses, and in the kitchens and living rooms of friends and family.
Over the years they talked about their dreams of traveling the world and pursuing music. It always seemed like a distant possibility. What started as late night kitchen jam sessions, open mics, and groovy covers turned into original tunes that sparked a musical connection they couldn’t deny. When timing and connection aligned 6 years later, LVDY was born.
In the last year and a half they have seen this project soar to heights they could have only ever dreamed of. From opening to bands like Joseph and LEON, to their first tour around the US, to their first festival and beyond; we are so excited for what is to come in the next year.
Sarah Slaton is a singer/songwriter that expresses pathos both poignant and relatable (Denver Westword). An Arkansas native, Slaton taught herself to play guitar in the shadow of the Ozarks before making her way out West to Denver. Slaton fronted the Colorado trio, Edison, recognized for their tireless touring efforts. The band traveled over 150,000 miles between 2014-2018 and with a relentless DIY approach signed with Rhyme & Reason Records (pronoun, Red Baraat). Edison toured with Iron & Wine and opened for Nathaniel Rateliff, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Shakey Graves. The band saw national acclaim with their debut LP, Familiar Spirit, with positive reviews from Consequence of Sound, No Depression, and features on Daytrotter, Jam In The Van, and Relix Sessions. When singer/songwriter Andrew Sturtz isn’t playing folk, jazz and soul in local Boulder venues, he’s out on the festival circuit, bringing his potent voice to stages like the Riverlights Festival in South Bend, IN; The Traverse City Microbrew & Music Festival in Traverse City, MI; and ARISE Festival in Loveland, CO. We are excited to bring you his music and this special interview from Stone Cottage Studios here in Boulder, CO.
Since his first gigs at only 12 years old and recording an EP as a teenager, Andrew has captured audiences with his ability to shift seamlessly between soulful acoustic music and fronting bands from multiple genres. He often plays throughout Boulder, Colorado, at venues like eTown and the Laughing Goat and has also played notable venues in Denver like The Walnut Room and Swallow Hill where he opened for the Grammy nominated group, The Secret Sisters. His precise guitar grooves and seemingly limitless voice inspire comparisons to scene favorites such as Martin Sexton and Amos Lee, among others.
In addition to appearances and collaborations around the Boulder area, Andrew has an album in the works, due Spring 2020. You can find samples of more of his songs at www.sturtzmusic.com
